Summer Hairstyle Trends

Long side braid

Plaited and braided hair featured heavily on the Summer catwalks.

The most popular braided hairstyle look was the long side braid, with a loose fringe and side part (pictured right).

Note: Amanda Sigfried and Emma Watson love this look.

1940's inspired hair

1940s inspired hair styles are fashionable this Summer.

Suitable for all hair colours, though less effective on black hair, 1940's wavey hair should be firm but not curly, worn with an off centre or side part and fall just below the shoulders.

Pair up with classic make up and styling.

Note: Angelina Jolie and Miranda Kerr love this look.

Slicked backed hair

If there's a hairstyle that screams attitude this Summer it's slicked hair.

Wet look hair slicked back with gel, with fingers or a wide toothed comb to provide the texture makes a great fashion statement.

This is also a style that works well with the man style trend.

Long 1970s inspired hair

Flowing, naturally styled long hair with plenty of volume and texture is a desirable Spring look.

Side parts featured predominately on the catwalks but this look can also be worn with a centre part.

Also popular is long straightened hair with volume.

Hair buns and twists

There are three major up-dos this Summer:

A chignon (pictured right) is an elegant low bun or twist that sits loosely at the nape of the neck - an easy and chic style for day or night.

The top knot - a tidy or messy bun that sits at the top of the head, which conveys a young and playful look.

And the disheveled french twist.
