How to wear short boots

The "ankle boot" and the even-shorter "bootie" have become major fashion players.

"Bootie" is the term for a boot-shoe that stops at the ankle, like "Caylin" from Shoe Show (pictured below left).

"Ankle boots" on the other hand, come up three inches above the ankle like "Jewel" (above right) also from Shoe Show.

Five good reasons why you should invest in some short boots this winter..

Firstly short boots generally cost less than their taller relatives.. so you can treat yourself to a pair more often!

Secondly with so many styles and colours on offer, from sophisticated heels to casual flats, from blacks and tans to winter whites.. you can create a range of winter looks simply by alternating your boots.

Thirdly when worn with pants and jeans ankle boots and booties give the appearance of tall boots, without the added bulk.

Fourthly ankle boots and booties don't care about the size of your calves. So they are a great option if you have trouble fitting into knee high boots.

And finally while tall boots are ideal for dresses, flowing and A-line skirts and over skinny jeans, they can be quite warm for indoor wear and transeasonal weather. Enter the ankle boot and you can kick up your heels in temperate comfort.

Who can wear ankle boots?

ANYONE can wear ankle boots with trousers or pants.

Smart and comfortable styles that can be worn under pants include "Carnaby" (below right) and "Knotty" (below left). Both styles are only $35 - during Shoe Show's 30% off all boots promotion!

For a chic casual look, try ankle boots with a heel like "Ketti" (pictured below left) or "Rina" (below right). Both look as fabulous peeping out from under a pair of jeans as when worn with more tailored pants (see model right).

While ankle boots make a fabulous addition to anyone's wardrobe, it takes a pair of shapely long legs to maximise the look of an ankle boot with a miniskirt, dress or shorts (see models top right and right).

The reason for this is that while knee high boots tend to elongate the leg, a shorter one chops the leg in half, visually, making even the longest legs look shorter.

If feel you have what it takes to wear ankle boots with skirts, shorts or dresses, our advice is to wear them with tights in a colour or tone to match your boots (avoid bare legs especially as it gets colder). We also suggest that you opt for outfits that come above the knee. Follow these tips for a more flattering effect and longer looking legs!
